Light Blue Cap for Infantryman (1878 Model) - Except on parade where the shako was regulation wear, the soldiers a non-commissioned officers of the infantry always wore the light blue cap. The piece shown is a personally acquired cap (owned by Ludwig Freiherr von bauernklau, one-year volunteen, 1896), which is of very fine manufacture. Made of strong, light blue wool, it is lined with dar red silk and has a black lacquered leather visor without edging. The side of the cap are reinforced with thin cardboard. The brass rosette carries the Imperial monogram (Franz Joseph 1.) and the leather sweatband has an ornamenttal embossment - HGM.
